Green Tea Could Aid Weight Loss Efforts
rd411

Green tea can, when combined with a healthy diet and exercise, can help to improve obesity indices, according to the results of a recent meta-analysis.

"The effects of green tea in obese subjects have been evaluated in different studies, but no consensus has been obtained due to the heterogeneity of the results," the authors wrote. This heterogeneity is due to variations in extract, duration of intervention, and dosage, they explained.

In order to evaluate the dose-response relationship of green tea, they conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of data from 26 randomized controlled trials including 1344 participants on the relationship between green tea supplements and obesity indices.

Overall, the researchers found that body mass index and body weight changed significantly following the initiation of green tea. Waist circumference following green tea consumption was significant in participants within studies employing 800 mg/day or greater of green tea and with treatment durations of less than 12 weeks.

"The results of present meta‐analysis study support the use of green tea for the improvement of obesity indices. Thus, we suggest that the use of green tea can be combined with a balanced and healthy diet and regular physical exercise in the management of obese patients," the researchers concluded.
