The Main Causes of Stress and How to Manage Them
Sharon Hwang

Do you ever feel like there is not enough time in the day? That you are being chased or in quicksand? We are in a land of information overload. We are caught up in a culture that When information is not managed, can become one of the main causes of stress in our lives. We live in a world that is extremely masculine. We value quick answers, saving time, productivity, and efficiency. We are a masculine culture that rewards working hard, pushing limits, and being constantly busy. These values have led many Americans to feeling like they are constantly under pressure or being chased.

Many Americans don't know what the best ways to relax are and have forgotten that stress and laughter are connected.

Americans are constantly in a state of flight or fight mode, which means that adrenaline is constantly being released into our bodies. This has led to adrenaline overload. We are using adrenaline as our main source of fuel. This is on of the main causes of stress in our lives.

When our bodies have too much adrenaline in our systems, it leads to adrenal failure or overload. So how does one manage staying out of this hyper vigilant state? Learning how to protect your adrenals and reducing your reliance on adrenaline, caffeine, and sugar is one of the first steps.

1) Get your adrenals tested. Go see a natural health care practitioner and have them test your adrenals.
2) Slowly start weaning yourself off or sugar, processed foods, caffeine, junk food and carbs.
3) Do a liver cleanse to remove toxins from your system and jump start your metabolism.
4) Get outside and take a brisk walk without any distractions, slow your mind down, leave the headphones and music at home.
5) Breathe! Deep breathing is a wonderful stress reducer. Bring your attention to breathing deeply and within your belly.
6) Schedule plenty of time around your meetings, so you have some down time throughout your day to play a little and laugh.
7) Laugh more. Do something goofy everyday, or watch something funny.
8) Learn to say no. Prioritize what is important to you and don't be a slave to your phone/schedule. Check your voice mail and e-mail twice a day.

Remember life is too short. If you burn out your adrenals today, you could potentially develop chronic fatigue or a chronic health issue for the rest of your life. Take time to find the best ways to relax that work for you. The main causes of stress in our society today revolve around constantly feeling like we need to stay busy. Foster more down time around you, do something that is creative, schedule a day where you have no engagements (you can do anything you want for the day with no time constraints). Laugh, the amount of laughing you do in a day effects your health. Stress and laughter are connected. Make sure to laugh and smile every day.

About Our Practice
Swan Lake Chiropractic is a unique health care center which has been offering wellness and acute pain treatment to patients for 28 years. The office has three chiropractors practicing very similar, low force techniques. Therefore, most patients are treated by all three doctors during the course of their treatment. Collaboration offers greater depth in treatment, diagnosis and analysis of each patient’s condition.

Our office works on the premise that the body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism and that our job as chiropractors is to eliminate any interference which might get in the way of natural healing. It is our opinion that there is no system of the human body more important than the nervous system which controls and regulates every function in the body, including but not limited to the immune, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, genitourinary and digestive systems.

Within the nervous system, messages are sent to and from the brain via the spinal cord which has 24 sets of nerves which travel to every cell, tissue and organ of the body. Slight misalignments of the vertebral column can cause pressure on these nerves, altering the messages to and from the spinal column and therefore the brain. Chiropractors attempt to correct these misalignments, called subluxations, thus returning the nervous system to proper function. These altered messages can cause organ dysfunction and ultimately pain, muscle weakness and/or numbness.

Other than chiropractors, no other health care provider specializes in the wellness of the nervous system or has as much knowledge of the function and dysfunction of that most important of body regulators. We invite you to take control of your health and join us in viewing your body in a new way.

And now, in an effort to stay up on the latest technologies and research, we have acquired a spinal decompression therapy table. This is the newest technology to assist the body in healing herniated or bulging discs, both for the neck and the lumbar spine. Swan Lake welcomes everyone and we think it is especially important to keep children’s nervous systems intact and strong. We are in-network with many different insurance plans and also have affordable cash rates and co-operative plans. Call our office today to set up and appointment.
